Days 1 to 3: Copenhagen

Copenhagen: The Perfect Start to Our LGBTQ+ Scandinavian Adventure

Welcome to Copenhagen, often celebrated as the “happiest city in the world” and a vibrant hub for LGBTQ+ culture. This dynamic city, known for its charming canals, diverse dining scene, and progressive spirit, is the ideal place for us to begin our journey together. Copenhagen’s inclusive and welcoming atmosphere makes it a perfect setting to connect with like-minded LGBTQ+ travellers and create lasting memories.

On our first evening, we’ll gather as a group to get to know one another and explore the city. Embracing Copenhagen’s reputation as the world’s most bike-friendly city, we’ll embark on a private biking and dining tour led by a local guide. This is not just an opportunity to see the sights but also to bond with your fellow travellers in a city that celebrates diversity and community.

Your second day in Copenhagen is yours to fill with whatever excites you. Whether it’s exploring the city’s rich LGBTQ+ history, visiting inclusive spaces, or simply enjoying the vibrant cultural scene, your Detours trip leader is here to offer personalized suggestions, help with logistics, and join you in the adventure. This day is all about enjoying the city and deepening connections within our group.

On the afternoon of our third day, we’ll set sail on a scenic overnight cruise to Norway. Relax in the comfort of your private cabin, enjoy delicious meals, and soak in the breathtaking views as we journey between these two beautiful Scandinavian capitals. This cruise is not just a way to travel but a chance to continue building friendships in a relaxed and luxurious setting.

If you’d like to extend your stay in Copenhagen to explore more of its LGBTQ+ scene or simply to unwind before we embark on the next leg of our adventure, we’re happy to arrange additional nights for you. Just let us know, and we’ll handle all the details.

Included Activity: Private bicycle tour of Copenhagen with a local guide

Days 4 to 5: Oslo

Arriving in Oslo – A Blend of Modernity, History, and LGBTQ+ Culture

On the morning of our 4th day, we’ll greet the stunning Norwegian coastline over a full breakfast buffet as our overnight cruise glides into the heart of Oslo. By 10 AM, we’ll disembark and step into central Oslo, where we’ll check in at our group hotel and prepare to explore our new home for the next couple of nights.

Oslo is a city that effortlessly blends modern design with historic charm, offering a welcoming atmosphere that’s both trendy and intimate. Over the next two days, we’ll have the opportunity to explore Oslo’s beautiful parks, iconic architecture, and world-class museums, including the Viking Ship Museum, the National Museum, and the Munch Museum. Days 4 to 5: Oslo

Days 6 to 7: Bergen

Epic Scenic Journey to Bergen – A Day of Contrasts and Adventure

Day 6 brings us one of the most breathtaking days of our journey, as we leave Oslo and embark on an epic adventure across Norway. Travelling along the famous Bergen and Flåm Railway, we’ll witness jaw-dropping landscapes—from stunning fjords and cascading waterfalls to glacially carved plateaus and majestic rivers. This scenic journey takes us through Norway at its most raw and untouched.

After this spectacular train ride, we’ll board an eco-friendly, electric-powered boat for a cruise through two of Norway’s most awe-inspiring fjords: the magnificent Aurlandsfjord and the dramatic Nærøyfjord. As we soak in the beauty, this shared experience is the perfect opportunity to connect with fellow LGBTQ+ travellers, creating lifelong memories in one of the world’s most beautiful settings.

Following the fjord cruise, we’ll reconnect with our train and continue our journey to Bergen, a city nestled between mountains and fjords that define Norway’s iconic scenery.

In Bergen, we’ll spend three nights together, with plenty of time to explore the city’s adventurous and cultural offerings. For those craving adventure, activities like hiking, ziplining, and paragliding await. If you prefer a slower pace, enjoy a stroll through Bergen’s charming old-world town center, visit fascinating museums, or take the funicular to the top of Mount Fløyen for panoramic views. You can also opt for a relaxing cruise down the Sognefjord, Norway’s longest and deepest fjord.

With three nights in Bergen, you’ll have ample time to enjoy the region’s stunning landscapes and engage in meaningful social experiences with fellow travellers before we continue to our next destination—Stockholm.

Days 9 to11: Stockholm

Touching Down in Stockholm – The Final Stop on Our LGBTQ+ Adventure

On the morning of our 9th day, we’ll take a short 80-minute flight to the last country on our adventure—Sweden! We’ll arrive in the stunning capital city of Stockholm, where we’ll spend two unforgettable nights together. Stockholm, the largest of the Scandinavian capitals, has a unique blend of historical charm and modern elegance, offering plenty of opportunities to explore and socialize.

For first-time visitors, a visit to Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s oldest neighborhood, is a must. While wandering through its picturesque streets, we’ll stop for a classic Swedish fika—a traditional coffee break that’s the perfect chance to relax and connect with fellow travellers. We’ll also visit the iconic Stortorget square, famous for its colourful old houses that create the perfect postcard backdrop.

Stockholm’s unique character can be experienced in many ways—whether it’s by exploring one of the city’s many fascinating museums (like the Vasa Museum or the iconic ABBA Museum) or taking a boat tour around the scenic archipelago that surrounds the city. Our time in Stockholm is about soaking in the vibrant culture and enjoying these final days together in one of Europe’s most LGBTQ+ friendly cities.

On day 11, we’ll bid farewell after an incredible journey filled with new experiences, friendships, and memories. You’re welcome to depart from Stockholm at any time, but if you’d like to extend your stay or add on our optional extension package, just let us know!

Useful Information

What’s the Climate Like in Scandinavia?
Scandinavia boasts a variety of climates depending on the season and region. Summers are generally mild to warm, especially in cities like Copenhagen and Stockholm, but coastal areas like Bergen can be cooler. Expect comfortable daytime temperatures, but bring layers as evenings can get chilly, especially near the fjords. A light jacket and comfortable clothing are ideal for exploring.

What’s the Currency?
Each country on your trip uses its own currency. Denmark has the Danish Krone (DKK), Norway uses the Norwegian Krone (NOK), and Sweden operates with the Swedish Krona (SEK). Credit cards are widely accepted throughout Scandinavia, but it’s a good idea to carry some local currency, particularly for smaller purchases or in rural areas. Starting with around 500 DKK, NOK, and SEK is recommended, and you can easily withdraw more from ATMs along the way.

Do I Tip in Scandinavia?
Tipping isn’t a major custom in Scandinavia, but it’s always appreciated for exceptional service. Most locals round up their bill at restaurants or cafés, but tipping your trip leader and guides is entirely at your discretion. If you’d like to show your appreciation, a general guideline is around 10-15 USD per day for guides.

What Plugs Are Used?
Scandinavia uses type C and F plugs, similar to most of Europe. The standard voltage is 230V with a frequency of 50 Hz, so you’ll want to bring an adapter if your devices aren’t compatible.

Is Scandinavia Safe for LGBTQ+ Travelers?
Scandinavia is one of the most LGBTQ+ friendly regions in the world, with inclusive attitudes and vibrant gay scenes in cities like Copenhagen, Oslo, and Stockholm. Events like Copenhagen Pride and Stockholm Pride are major celebrations of diversity. While urban areas are very welcoming, it’s always wise to be mindful of local customs in more rural or remote areas.

What’s the Time Zone?
All three countries on this trip are in the Central European Time Zone (CET), which is UTC +1. When travelling during the summer months, this shifts to Central European Summer Time (CEST), UTC +2. Keep this in mind, particularly when moving between countries.

What Should I Pack for Scandinavia?
Pack for variable weather! Lightweight clothing for warmer days, along with layers for cooler evenings, will keep you comfortable. Don’t forget essentials like a waterproof jacket (especially in Bergen), comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, and a hat for sunny days. If you’re planning on adventurous activities like hiking or biking, make sure to pack appropriate gear. Lastly, insect repellent is useful for trips into nature or near the fjords.
